TOLL ROAD IS JUST ANOTHER ROAD TAX !

TOLL ROAD IS JUST ANOTHER ROAD TAX !

Toll Road is a Business.

In 2000 Moving form NY to NC awarded me the privilege of  not having to deal with any Toll roads. All roads were managed sand maintained by the DOT from the funds from taxes allotted for this function. Over time the influx of citizens from other states took it's toll (pun indented). Enough people form other states with Toll Roads moved into the NC area and they have started to accept and implement plans for Toll Roads. As if a Toll Road is a normal part of life.

North Carolina now In  has three primary toll roads:

- the Triangle Expressway,

- the Monroe Expressway,

= and the I-77 Express Lanes.

And now the state is planning a Toll for yet another road which is currently owned, state managed and maintained by DOT ??? Why pay Road Tax  to DOT if they are going to charge for roads separately !!!

Introducing more Toll Roads will deprive the lower income citizens from being able to use the existing free roads in NC.  Other creative schemes like HOV lanes should be a better idea or using extra lanes in high traffic times can provide relief to the congestion during peak traffic hours.

NO MORE TOLLS NEEDED IN NC !

The media is selling this ide of Toll as if it is the only solution.

Traffic on US-1/Capital Boulevard is bad. But would drivers pay for an upgrade?

Thousands of people drive on US-1 every day, and it soon could cost drivers to drive on a certain section of the highway.

Raleigh is considering implementing tolls on a section of US 1 (also known as Capital Boulevard) to help fund improvements to the highway. The specific details, including the exact location of the toll and the cost, are still under discussion and subject to public input.

Details of the Proposed Toll:
  • Location:
The proposed toll is for a section of US 1/Capital Boulevard between I-540 and the Franklin County line.
  • Purpose:
The toll would be used to fund improvements to the highway, including widening it to a six-lane freeway with interchanges and new access roads.
  • Funding:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) are exploring the possibility of using toll revenue to accelerate construction and address the growing traffic volume on the highway.
  • Toll Options:
Several options are being considered, including building a full toll road, similar to the Triangle Expressway, or creating express lanes with varying tolls based on traffic conditions.
  • Public Input:
The Raleigh News & Observer reports that public input is being sought on the proposed toll.
  • Toll Costs:
While specific toll costs are still being determined, WRAL.com reports that a fully tolled expressway would likely have rates similar to the Triangle Expressway, where drivers with an NC Quick Pass pay around 23 cents a mile.
  • Construction Timeline:
Raleigh News & Observer reports that the project is expected to take six years to build.
  • Traffic Impact:
The NCDOT estimates that between 32,000 and 65,000 vehicles travel this stretch of US 1 daily, and that number is expected to increase.
